Job Summary
This role serves as the primary local liaison for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance within a major data center construction project in Malaysia. The position requires bridging corporate EHS standards with strict local regulatory frameworks to ensure uninterrupted operations and full legal adherence.
Key Responsibilities
- Align the project’s EHS management framework with Malaysian statutory requirements, specifically those enforced by DOSH, CIDB, and FMA, while identifying and mitigating local security and compliance gaps.
- Oversee the entire on-site safety lifecycle, including the development of localized safety plans, delivery of mandatory training, execution of daily inspections, and proactive risk assessment to prevent incidents.
- Conduct regular site audits to identify procedural violations or non-compliant operations, issue formal rectification directives, and monitor the complete closure of identified hazards to ensure a zero-tolerance approach to safety breaches.
- Act as the central point of contact for project owners, PMCs, third-party auditors, and government bodies, facilitating smooth interactions during inspections, system reviews, and compliance reporting.
- Manage the end-to-end closure of all findings from official and internal audits, maintaining a comprehensive compliance ledger and archiving remediation evidence to prevent regulatory penalties or operational stoppages.
- Analyze near-misses, safety hazards, and minor incidents to determine root causes, then develop corrective actions and long-term preventive strategies in line with local regulations.
- Support senior management in drafting accurate accident and compliance reports, ensuring all data submissions meet official standards and eliminating any risk of underreporting.
- Audit internal EHS documentation for data integrity and accuracy, while assisting in the supervision and coordination of local and subcontractor EHS teams.
- Facilitate safety culture initiatives by reviewing typical violations and conducting case-study training sessions to enhance staff awareness and adherence to local safety protocols.
Requirements
- Must be a Malaysian national with professional fluency in English and functional Mandarin communication skills.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Possess a minimum of six years of EHS management experience within the construction or electromechanical sectors.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of Malaysian EHS regulations, construction safety standards, and risk control methodologies.
- Proven ability to prepare Risk Assessments (RA), Permit to Work (PTW) systems, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), and incident reports.
- Mandatory possession of the Malaysian Safety Green Book; international certifications such as NEBOSH or OSHA are highly desirable.
- Exhibit strong leadership, cross-cultural communication skills, and the resilience to operate effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced construction environment.
